Hitsugi no Chaika Season 2 This Fall?

A tweet from creators talking about continuation of the surprise hit (for me at least) series, Hitsugi no Chaika (Chaika's Coffin).

There you have it, I am surprised that the possibility of Hitsugi no Chaika sequel is mulled so soon. If everything goes well, we might see a sequel of this series?

Personally I liked the series not for the albino girl but the male lead that is not annoying at all. 

Fate Zero anime and manga confirmed! Yes!

TYPEMOON and Ufotable has confirmed the adaptation of Fate Zero as anime and manga! YES! Finally after years of speculation, my prediction came out as reality. So far no news on casting, movie/OAD/TV series is out yet but it will be revealed May 2011 issue TYPEMOON ACE Vol 6. Director is Ei Aoki (あおき えい) whereas character designer by Tomonori Sudou (須藤友徳)and Atsushi Ikariya (碇谷敦).

After awesome work on Kara no Kyokai, I was hoping Ufotable will be doing more TYPEMOON stories and I was right. This time, I predicted fans will like charismatic and manly Rider (Alexander The Great) and very stern, serious Saber. Shirou's foster father will the main driving character for this story. Here we can see how ruthless and cold man he is, much to Saber's disapproval.

Penned by Nitroplus Gen Urobuchi, it is more action packed compared to more mystical and obtuse Kinoko Nasu.

Hell yeah.

Toaru Majutsu no Index Season 2 is on

It is on. The 2nd season to successful series, "Toaru Majutsu no Index" or Certain Magical Index will be coming soon.

I have read the novel beyond vol 6 (the 1st season anime covers vol 1 to 6), felt that the story quality is kinda going downhill with more and more cliche thrown in which made it too predictable for audience.

Now let's see if the anime able to do it better.

Yoshitoshi ABe new work "Desperant" / デスペラント

Another hit or miss director, Yoshitoshi ABe the guy who gave the world famous mindfuck anime Serial Experiments Lain ( I am still not sure if I like it or not), pleasant hit Haibane Reimei (awesome series) and disappointing Texhnolyze (what's with the bug eye?) Now he announced a new work in progress, Desperant / デスペラント based on Taisho era.

Apparently he is working with his old buddies from Lain project and we shall see the work next year earliest.

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn / 機動戦士ガンダムUC(ユニコーン Movie confirmed?

According to this Italian Gundam fan website, the Sunrise people sort of confirming that there is works on Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn in progress at Italian anime convention news conference. The president of Sunrise stated the release of Unicorn movie in 2010 to mark 30th anniversary of famous mecha franchise which also saw the completion of full mock up statue of Gundam.



Storywise, it took place 3 years after Operation Axis (seen in Char's /Sha's Counterattack) firefight between remnants of Zeon called "The Sleeved" and moping up Federation fleet led by Londo Bell taskforce that successfully blocked Char's /Sha's masterstroke. Based on ongoing novel series by Fukui Harutoshi.

Bad news though, creator famous for "Mr-Kill-Em-All" Tomino himself is not involved and so is Katoki Hajime in the production. Katoki has his detractors but I love his touch on Gundam since 0083 Stardust Memory. So it remains to be seen who will be the mecha designer and director for Unicorn movie.

Marvelous Entertainment is in trouble.

Just as I predicted, more anime studios or related industry is going down after demise of GONZO in wake of global economy recession. This time is Marvelous Entertainment, famous for Gunslinger Girl, School Days, Zipang, Mushishi franchise and Harvest Moon game series. The company is asking for 20 voluntary retirements with special severance package which coming to effect around end of April 2009.

The production company expects USD 13 million loss; already cull down on bonuses, benefits and PR campaigns as the result. With this announcement, things certainly look bad for them.

The gloom continues.

Eden of the East / 東のエデン

Studio I.G. and Kenji Kamiyama is coming up with new series " Eden of the East"; this winning combination has produced GITS: Stand Alone Complex and best chambara anime series, Seirei no Moribito/Guardian of Water Spirit. I am very, very sure that I want to follow this one very closely, so far I am not disappointed with these 2 forces.

Shangri La/ シャングリ・ラ

New GONZO anime coming soon, with same team setup that produced largely successful Last EXILE few years ago. It is called Shangri-La and it is based on the novel by Ikegami Eiichi.

Looks interesting, I will check it out pretty soon.

Phantom Requiem Anime series announced

If some old timers remembered, one of Nitroplus most famous work is Phantom of the Inferno which a story about an unwilling assassin in wilderness of America brainwashed to be perfect top killer for underground organization by evil German scientist. There is a brief but largely forgettable anime OVA treatment ( I hated it pretty much) and right now there is a new series coming soon in 2009. The art looks good so far and I hope they will not tone down the violence since it is an integral part of the storytelling.

Phantom 〜Requiem for the Phantom〜 will feature the director Koichi Mashimo (.Hack franchise, Blade of the Immortal, Noir) and series script supervisor Yousuke Kuroda (Demonbane, Gungrave, Mobile Suit Gundam 00).

Yoshimitsu Yamashita (Blade of the Immortal, Murder Princess), Mutsumi Sasaki (Murder Princess, .hack//Roots episode animation director), Yoko Kikuchi (Arc the Lad anime, Noir, .hack//Legend Of The Twilight) and other artists will adapt the game characters for anime. The anime studio Bee Train will be in charge of production.

New Space Opera Tytania

Information is pretty scarce on this title, all I knew it is based on 3 novels by same dude who wrote Legend of Galactic Heroes and Ryoko's Case Files (Yoshiki Tanaka). A lot of people from Macross working on this one so I guess there might be something worth to watch. I really liked the character designer, Mikimito Haruhiko.

Cowboy Bebop Live Action?

This article here confirmed it but I honestly would rather wait for more solid confirmation. But this series has been begging to be turn into live action for some time and I am looking forward to it.

Only time will tell.

Black Lagoon OVA or 3rd Season?

Next installment of Black Lagoon is announced, will be centered on story of Roberta The Killer Maid and her vengeance on United States. I am happy yet I do wonder if if there is sufficient material to be full fledged 3rd season or it is going to be 2-3 episode OVA special. Fabiola, Roberta's helper will be new killer girl in this installment.

Nevertheless, it is a good thing that Revy and the gang is back even for a short while.

School Rumble 3rd Term. Or is it?

The promotion for new School Rumble series is up for 3rd time, and considering from the horrendously indecisive manga story....I think the anime can go on forever like Energizer Bunny. Already some fans of the story expressed anger at lack of resolution after such a long run.



The cast promotion of next School Rumble anime, VAs/seiyuus for Tenma (Ami Kozhimizu) and Yakumo (Mamiko Noto).

From what I knew, the love complication is yet to be resolved even at manga's chapter 220. To me that is like stringing along a cash cow as long as possible. Jin Kobayashi who parodied himself in the story as delinquent main character perhaps running of ideas?

Nodame Cantable Paris Chapter

Looks like next installment of Nodame is coming and it talks about the adventures of 2 aspiring talented classic musicians from Japan in Europe.
I am looking forward to this.

This is one of the few animes that managed to show, not tell the story. Good characters and nicely done pacing also helps.

For those who yet to read or watch this, get it.

Ga Rei, anime adaptation coming soon.

I just read some of the manga and it leaves the feeling of Bleach with just little bit more edge. But it does have some redeeming moments like focused relationship aspect of the characters. The fights are fairly standard and so are most of the characters in the narrative.

So expect typical supernatural fights, demons, school girls with power, clueless hero with latent potentials etc etc etc.

Story
2061 AD. Fifty years have passed since mankind developed the Network society. It was anticipated that this new infrastructure would realize a utopia where people connected with each other at the level of consciousness. However, new social problems such as personal data leaks and proliferation of manipulated information began to surface. Nevertheless, people still relied on the Network to exchange information, and proved unable to opt to abandon it.

In due course, a new Network realm with more effective security measures was developed. This was called Meta Real Network, usually abbreviated as "the Metal."

The Metal accommodated personal memory data within protected virtual stand-alone organic cyber enclaves called bubble shells and eventually pervaded the everyday lives of people.

However, people gradually learned to release and explode their instincts within the secure environment of the Metal. The unleashed instincts pushed each individual's consciousness to drown in the sea of information and to be exposed to the pressures of desire. Meanwhile, norms and regulations continued to bind their real world lives. Thus, strange friction between the two worlds began to manifest themselves as aberrations beyond the bounds of the imaginable.
Experts who challenged the deep sea of the Metal to investigate and decipher such aberrations were called cyber divers.

This is a story of a cyber diver, Masamichi Haru, who investigates the incidents that lie between Reality and the Metal.
