Kite Live Action Trailer Up.

Ah, finally the Hollywood adaptation of infamous anime 2 ep OVA with hentai element , "Kite" is up. The development of adaptation is been a long, long time, I heard about live action adaption for 1st time in 2006, I think. The director of the anime OVA is Yasomi Umetsu, the dude who gave us Mezzo Forte and Wizard Barrister Cecil.

Let's see how good this is but I would expect the explicit underaged sex scene to be snipped off.

Heaven's Feel Movie is Announced.

Well, smack me some tentacles and call me Horsey! They just announced a movie adaptation for Heaven's Feel, the final arc in Fate/Stay Night story. A surely tremendous time for TYPEMOON/Fate fans (like me)

Personally, I think it is the best story out of 3 from the original visual novel. To some people, it is a bit too bloody and brutal.

Needless to say, I am damn fucking excited.

First Few Images from Omoide no Marnie / 思い出のマーニー

Few images released for upcoming Studio Ghibli's latest release, Omoide no Marnie / 思い出のマーニー. Directed by Arietty guy, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, this movie is out in Japan soon on 19th July 2014. No announcement of international release date yet.

Here is the collection of images.

I knew this movie based on Joan G Robinson's children novel (you can read the synopsis on Amazon here), I am looking forward to this. I am kinda enjoyed Arietty so I will follow this with some interest. However I am quite perplexed with lack of trailer(s) to promote this movie. Like big time puzzlement here.

Rumours seems to be buzzing that this might be potential lesbian/yuri material.

Review: The Wind Rises (2014)

The Wind Rises (2014) is the saddest movie I ever seen, it is not tearing out your eyes type sadness but it is a loaded silence looking at how dreams can be a monster when it tampered with reality. I was choking inside last night and I felt this is the most personal Miyazaki work ever. His sadness can be felt from flat line pacing which might pissed some viewers off as being too uninteresting. To me, it is thematic background acknowledgement of dead dream represented by the flatline...constantly goes on and on. His treatment of events are rather blase, Miyazaki is just not interested in dramatizing things at all. Which is remarkable.

The characters are insular and aloof, they never try to engage the viewer because the director wants to talk about the end of a dream more by using these characters as a proxy to that end. It is not about character development at all. Even Jiro, the male lead is voice acted by Evangelion director is placid in his expression. The only human connection is brief moments of lapse and the constant puffs of smoke. The main female lead feels tacked on despite efforts to make her relevant to the story.

Artwise is very dreamy, fitting because it talks about dream.

To fully grasp the meat of the movie, a viewer must have some background knowledge of Japanese history and aviation too since this is the only spot of passion that Miyazaki keep in the movie. World War 1, the Great Kanto Earthquake, the economic crash, the war on China and World War 2 are the pivotal points for storytelling.

This movie can be polarizing since it is so personal, it is solid 8 out of 10 from me but other people might hate this movie because it appears to be so uninteresting. In a way, it is Miyazaki's personal essay on why militarism is bad for Japan and his criticism (some say preaching) to Shinzo Abe that this is not right at all.

I suspect I might see something else if I going to watch this movie again in future.

Ghost in the Shell Live Action is Happening?

Alright, I read the headlines and frankly speaking, I am not too comfortable with the choice of the director since I found Snow White and the Huntsmen (2013) suck balls.

Fine, my opinion is premature given he is doing 1 movie only so far. Maybe. I am not so sure. All being said, I am excited to see the project finally going somewhere now. Just hope it won't suck.

Princess Kaguya (2013) Long Trailer

Okay this is a 6 min trailer on 2nd Studio Ghibli movie of the year, The Story of Princess Kaguya. Directed by same dude who did Graveyard of Fireflies (Isao Takahata), I suspect it will be another tearjerker or thematically sad at the minimum.

Needless to say, I am eager to watch this. Bring it on. Coming soon to Japan on 23rd November 2013, no announcement for international screenings yet.

Hal (2013)

Hal or Haru is a new movie by Ryoutato Makihara in full directorial debut. This guy involved in Shingeki no Kyojin, Fractale, Tatami Galaxy and many more. The story is about a replicant android sent to a girl who just lost her beloved in a plane accident. The android is designed to sound and look like him so the girl unable to accept it/him at 1st but slowly warms up.

Sounds like a very emotional and intriguing story, caught my interest intensely. Released in Japan on June this year.

Okay, I dunno if this is true or not but apparently there is a movie based on famous manga/anime series coming soon in 2014. Unfortunately this is all I got so far, no announcement of cast or director etc.

I will take this news with a grain of salt.

Kaze Tachinu is Miyazaki's criticism against resurgent Japanese nationalistic past.

Kaze Tachinu, latest movie from maestro, Hayao Miyazaki has generated controversy for lack of cuteness and very somber tone - in fact some people felt it is a veiled criticism of current Japanese crawl back to nationalism that cost the nation so dearly in World War 2. In fact some quarters in Japan hit back at the film maker, asking him to stay away from politics.

"Right after you see the first successful Zero flight there's a scene where the ground is littered with smashed planes, which is his message right there." - a poignant statement to me.

I haven't watch the movie yet but this views have gave me a lot of pause for thought and needless to say, makes me more intrigued about it than ever.

First Trailer of Kaze Tachinu / 風立ちぬ (2013)

Hayao Miyazaki's newest movie, Kaze Tachinu first trailer now out. I can't wait to see what is going to be since Kotaku article said it is adult friendly and kids find it boring. Means it is for adult audience which is a very good news to me.

Something I completely agree with Miyazaki Sensei.

In this article, the famous animator expressed how frustrated he was with voice acting in Japan, too many try to sell themselves instead of making the characters work. And his particular pet peeve which I agree completely is the ear piercing cutesy voice tendencies in current anime scenes.

His latest work, Kaze Tachinu is coming soon to theaters at Japan on 20th July 2013.
