My personal view on anime, as it is become a visible media niche in the world. Just like any other media, it has its share of pukes and good ones....this is my view on it. Whimsical? Informative? Overly serious? Too silly? Why the hell am I still watching anime? Thoughts like this runs through my mind here.

Gedo Senki (Tales from Earthsea)
Trailer no 1
Trailer no 2 Well, just got this movie and I will post my thoughts later. I wonder if Miyazaki Junior have what it takes to inherit the mantle of anime masterpiece like his father.

I've always been a fan of the Earthsea series from Ursula Le Guin. After the god-awful miniseries that the Sci-Fi Channel presented, I had hoped that Gedo Senki would be able to redeem the earlier failures of depicting Earthsea onto visual media. On Ursula Le Guin's website, her commentary on Gedo Senki best sums up the pros and cons that Goro Miyazaki committed when he made Gedo Senki. As for myself, I tried not to be that hard-headed as a purist and give the director some flexibility in adapting the books into a movie format. However, it still looks like Earthsea fans will have to wait a while until somebody else can do justice to an Earthsea movie or TV series. It is a pity that Goro's father, Hayao had not done the project (according to Ms. Le Guin's wishes). A Wizard of Earthsea would probably best represented as a 13 or 26 episode series that depicts the rise of young Ged's foray into magic and the temperance of his ego and ignorance.

The deus ex machina ending kinda ruin it for me.
